Pinnacle Bank Arena

The 16,500-seat West Haymarket Arena possesses 2,400 tons of cooling and has the potential for future expansion to 18,000 seats. This arena replaces the Bob Devaney Sports Center (13,595 seats) as the new home of the Nebraska Cornhusker Men's and Women's basketball teams. The Waldinger Corporation completed the entire mechanical and plumbing packages including the design-assist phase of pre-construction. We worked hand-in-hand with engineers to create an efficient, constructible and cost-effective design. The Building Information Modeling (BIM) process involved our detailers developing 100% 3D HVAC and plumbing models for coordination, pre-fabrication and field production. This arena is constructed within the confines of an active railroad system so all of our employees on site were trained and certified to work near railroads.

Nationwide Insurance

This 500,000 square-foot building is located in the Gateway Mall in downtown Des Moines, and is the headquarters for Allied Insurance, a division of Nationwide Insurance. The project also included a 2500-car parking ramp, and Waldinger installed the HVAC and plumbing for both structures.

801 Grand

Owned by The Principal Financial Group, this 42-story high-rise building is a Des Moines landmark. It includes offices, underground parking and commercial retail space as well as connections to the Locust Street parking ramp and downtown skywalk. The Waldinger Corporation has perfomed ongoing work for this long-time customer.

Cabela's

Celebrated as "The World's Foremost Outfitter" for over 50 years, we installed a variable speed direct current motor and manufactured a mechanism to make the shaft for the original pump to sequence with the La Vista store's windmill. We also performed maintenance on the chiller to get proper water temperature for fish in the aquarium and stream.

Capitol District

This 250,575 square-foot, 12 story apartment building contains 218 units as well as two levels designated as commercial/retail space. This project took advantage of our VDC/BIM capabilities and used that information to aid in the prefabrication and kitting of material for each of the 218 individual apartment units. We began by drawing the domestic water, sanitary waste and sanitary vent systems within the coordinated model, standardizing each apartment type for ease of prefabrication and installation. We used our BIM drawings to prefabricate complete riser assemblies for over 70% of the apartments and made kits containing the fittings and accessories required to put together the non-prefabricated apartments. This process simplified field work and made it safer to perform by bringing it into the controlled environment of our fab shop.

ISU Molecular Biology

The "Mole-Bio" is just one of several sophisticated laboratory projects we have completed at Iowa State University in Ames. Our HVAC contract included installation of extensive stainless steel fume exhaust systems. Other prominent ISU laboratory projects include the Livestock Infectious Disease Facility and the Swine Research Facility.

Project Oasis

This Tier III, 4 MW (day one) data center in Omaha was a fast-track, design assist project consisting of data hall space, chiller plant, supporting MEP rooms and administrative areas. The N+1 facility contains over 2,000 tons of cooling accomplished with a combination of full mechanical, mechanical assisted and 100% economizer modes. The design included a thermal energy storage (TES) system for emergency cooling. This TES tank houses Waldinger prefabricated internal flow distributors (or diffusers) which supply 60-degree chilled water for up to 10 minutes to mission critical cooling equipment at a peak thermal load of 750 tons, in the event of chiller plant failure. We 3D modeled all mechanical, HVAC and plumbing components, coordinated and collision checked with Navisworks and BIM 360 Glue clash detection software. Our services included support thru Level 5 commissioning.

TD Ameritrade Stadium

The TD Ameritrade Baseball Stadium features 197,000 square feet of mixed-use space with many areas air conditioned and many open to the elements. This project includes 840 tons of cooling, split slab construction, variable flow volume refrigeration equipment, acid waste poly-fuse seal piping, variable radius elevated ductile iron water distribution, an 8,000 GPM storm water lift station and 13 commercial grade kitchens. We prefabricated 100% of the restrooms offsite and shipped them just in time for installation.

The Wire

The 380,000 square-foot space at The Wire boasts 300 apartments installed into the remodeled former Northwestern Bell Regional Headquarters, built in the 1950s. The building consists of 12 stories, including an underground parking structure, several common area spaces and an enclosed roof top pool area.

World Food Prize

The World Food Prize undertook the renovation of a century-old Beaux Arts structure for its headquarters, the former Des Moines Public Library, preparing it for another century of duty. Waldinger crews were involved in all phases of the historic restoration, including mechanical, sheet metal and electrical systems to completely update this riverside landmark.

Haymarket District

This energy plant for the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska is also capable of providing heating and cooling services to other buildings in the Haymarket area. The major equipment consists of chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps and an emergency generator. The Waldinger Corporation created a Building Information Model (BIM) that allowed trades to coordinate installation of all systems. Prior to construction, we conducted an owner model review to confirm accessibility and serviceability of equipment. Finally, the model aided in prefabricating piping assemblies and even hangers for this project.

IEC - Wells Fargo Arena

The Iowa Events Center, set along the banks of the Des Moines River, is a $200+ million facility, totaling more than one million square feet in size. The three-building complex consists of the 100,000 square-foot Hy-Vee Exhibition Hall, the 17,000-seat Wells Fargo Arena, and renovation of the existing Veterans Memorial Auditorium. This complex is a state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility for sports, concerts, entertainment, trade shows, conventions and exhibits. Waldinger installed over 2.5 million pounds of piping and ductwork on this project!

Lakeside Hospital

This leading healthcare provider in Omaha accelerated the production schedule of their addition by five months in order to be up and running before another hospital. The fast-paced timeline was aggressive, but The Waldinger Corporation met the challenge and had no problems accommodating the new schedule. This innovative facility consists of four floors, with 140 patient rooms on the upper three floors.

State Judicial Building

This beautiful structure, located on the state capital grounds, is home to the Iowa Supreme Court and other state organizations. The building includes multiple court rooms, judges' chambers, additional office space and underground parking. Our mechanical system includes chilled water and hot water plants serving multiple variable air volume, air delivery systems. Acoustics, temperature and humidity control were key to this successful project.

UNMC Health Science

This University of Nebraska Medical Center four-story, LEED certified facility boasts the latest in technologically advanced classrooms and simulation laboratories. The Waldinger Corporation performed the entire HVAC and plumbing scopes of work and assisted in an extensive commissioning program.

Verizon Wireless

Construction of the Verizon Wireless Mobile Switching Data Center facilitated the expansion of Verizon's business in the Omaha area. The single-story building consists of 180 tons of cooling. Waldinger completed the entire mechanical package, including the site utilities, HVAC, sheet metal, fuel oil installation as well as test and balance services.

Buffett Cancer Center

This state-of-the-art new building in Omaha is a concrete structure that includes 3,700 tons of rebar, 45,000 cubic yards of concrete and if you stacked up the 50,000 sheets of 5/8"drywall in the building, it would be twice the height of the Empire State Building! There are also five existing research/hospital buildings that the Cancer Center connects with via skywalks.

Mars Chocolate

This candy manufacturing plant was on a fast-track schedule from day one. The Waldinger Corporation came on board in January of 2013 and had on-time substantial completion by January of 2014 with production beginning the next month. A key to our success was the fabrication quality BIM model that allowed us to prefabricate major mechanical system components in our Wichita, Omaha and Des Moines fabrication shops and deliver them to the jobsite. By moving a large portion of the labor offsite we were able to substantially reduce our onsite crew size in a tight labor market. The LEED certified silver project had a great deal of welded stainless steel fabrication, multiple dust collection systems and miles of pipe, including food-grade stainless steel piping.

NE1 Data Center

This data center in La Vista, Nebraska provides a major internet search engine company with all of their required server capacity for the Midwestern region of the United States. Waldinger was the lead CAD Manager for the project. We managed the 3D BIM process for all trades. The extensive coordination effort included architectural, electrical, mechanical, temperature controls, security, fire alarms; and data cabling under the four-foot-high raised floor.

Prairie Meadows

The Waldinger Corporation has been involved in virtually every major capital project at Prairie Meadows Race Track and Casino, from the original construction of the racetrack - predating its casino days - to the reconstruction enabling full casino operation. In 2006, we completed a $12 million mechanical project including expansion of the existing central plant, supporting a second-floor casino expansion. That expansion included more room for slot machines and table games, an auditorium that seats 1,200 for concerts and 800 for banquets, a 250-seat buffet restaurant and a 150-seat fine-dining restaurant. Coming soon... the new Prairie Meadows Hotel.
