Hilton Des Moines Downtown

Waldinger joined the construction team early on to engage in this intricate and challenging project for the new Iowa Event Center Hotel – Hilton Des Moines Downtown. The project consisted of a design-build approach to coordinate mechanical installation for the 330-room, 10-story building completed with nearly one year of preconstruction and planning and one year of construction. 

Modular prefabricated and fully-furnished bathroom pods delivered a compressed schedule, improved site material handling and maximized costs. We meticulously integrated these assemblies into the virtual design and construction (VDC) process, utilizing a shared Revit model with detailed coordination to ensure all rough-in utility connections would match upon installation. 

Faced with the challenge to install a multi-story riser stack in an open shaft, Waldinger collaborated with suppliers and onsite trades to design, prefabricate and install several vertical piping risers from a nontraditional, innovative material.  A feat that would have taken five days for a four-man crew with traditional, grooved and coupling construction methods, took only two days utilizing this method and delivered a worry-free, maintenance-free system for the owner.
